Iberian civilisation, like that of other Mediterranean societies, was highly developed. The basis of the economy was farming and animal husbandry, together with fishing along the coast. They had mastered iron working and produced a wide range of implements. Manufacturing activities were also important: spinning, weaving, tanning, repoussé metalworking and pottery, which had their own marked individual character. Trade linked the Iberians into the Mediterranean maritime trade networks. The Iberians developed their own alphabet and minted coins.
