The Roots.
Pre-history
Neolithic

The Neolithic revolution spread throughout the western Mediterranean between 5000 and 2500 BC. The groups of humans continued to hunt and gather, but also began to harvest cereals and legumes and started to keep herds of animals. The production of food led to major cultural changes. Settlements became permanent and the first villages began to appear, though cave dwellings were still used. Pottery and fabric were made. New polished stone tools made farming activities easier. Caves and villages such as Draga de Banyoles provide evidence of the early Neolithic period in the lands of what is now Catalonia.
