On the Edge of the Empire.
The Reapers' War
September 11st

The death of Charles II without an heir unleashed an international conflict over the Hispanic monarchy. The War of the Spanish Succession (1705-1716) pitted the new Catalonia (now with wide support from a number of other countries under the Crown of Aragon) against the Crown of Castile. The Catalans chose in favour of Archduke Charles of Austria (named Charles III) and against the new king, Philip V. The main consequence of losing the war was the abolition of the Catalan constitutions and institutions and, therefore, the end of the Catalan state.
