The Museum of the History of Catalonia has designed the Times of the Monasteries routes in order to highlight the important architectural legacy left by monasticism that still stands in Catalonia. Most of these buildings no longer serve the original purpose for which they were built and have also undergone changes to their architectural structure. Even so, they remain some of the finest examples of monastic architecture in Catalonia.

The twelve routes have been devised in order to offer you the opportunity to visit 50 abbeys and canonries founded between the 9th and the 12th centuries. Each route has been designed to be geographically coherent and can be completed within a maximum of two days.
